Excellent raw power, low average hitter, strikes out a lot. Former Baseball America Cubs #1 ranked prospect (2005), has fallen off considerably. Now considered a C prospect at best, but considering outstanding power, could be a late bloomer. Hit 39 HR and 38 doubles in Lansing (A) in 2004, but has never come close to that production again.

Doesn’t run much. Never steals bases (6 for 10 in 6 seasons), has never tripled in career.

Fielding ability is typical of a first baseman, nothing special.


Batting Stance and hitting mechanics





















Holds hands high, just above back shoulder, bat tilted slightly forward. Tall and upright, slight bend in back leg, front foot extended, follows through with two hands.

Appearance

Wears stubble, with goatee and sideburns. Used to wear hair longer at back, now shorter as in first photo.

Noticeable tattoos on right forearm leading to wrist, and both biceps, looks a lot like Jason Giambi’s.






Has mixed it up with different gear combinations, but usually wears white tape on wrists, and white/team color batting gloves. Occasionally wears sleeve on right arm, probably to cover tattoos, but usually does not wear anything besides team colour undershirt just visible under jersey sleeves. Pants are worn past the ankles, but not as low as a Manny Ramirez style over the shoes. Fielding glove in picture is two tone, black and tan from early years with Lansing.








Currently wears #44, was demoted to A+ Daytona Cubs after poor 2007 at AA. Used to wear #22 in earlier years with Daytona.

Injury risk, broken foot in late 2006, probably hampered performance in 2007.
